Peacock's Tail
Once in a land called Birdville, there lived a peacock. He was the biggest and most beautiful bird. He was known for the shimmering eyes on his tail. It was a special tail that could shoot beams of light brighter than the sun. Every bird in Birdville would gaze at Peacock's tail as it sparkled in the light.
One day when the peacock was playing with his friends he heard a growl in the bushes. Then suddenly they all heard a ROAR!!!
A tiger pounced out of the bushes and snarled, "I came here to eat my once-a-month bird!"
"But not today!", said Peacock.
"Okay", said Tiger - "under one condition."
"What?" asked Peacock.
"We will fight! If you win, I will leave. But if I win, it is you who must leave."
Peacock agreed and said, "Let's fight!"
The battle went on for hours until Peacock used his secret move and shot light from the eyes on his tail to sting Tiger. Tiger clawed Peacock's tail and ran off into the evening sky. After the dust from the fight cleared, everyone gasped.
"What?" asked Peacock.
"Look!" said Chirp, the hummingbird.
Peacock gasped at his sparkling feathers lying on the ground, "My tail, it is gone!!!"
As the days passed by Peacock mourned in his castle of vines. His friends felt very very bad for their friend. So they huddled together to come up with ideas to cheer him up.
Pecker said, "How about giving him something?"
Chirp said, "How about a new tail?"
Fuzzy said, "We can each give 3 feathers from our tails."
Cuckoo said, "Yes!! We can use all the different colors to make a brand-new tail for Peacock. It will be even better than before!"
The birds worked hard and used vines to sew their feathers together for the new tail. They went up to the garden of Peacock's castle and saw him staring sadly at the bright shining moon. It reminded him of the sparkling eyes on his lost tail. Fuzzy walked up to him and said, "Peacock, we have something for you!"
Peacock turned around and saw all his friends carrying the colorful new tail. He tried it on and it was the perfect size! He said, "Thank you, guys!" and launched off his new tail to fly high in the sky. It sparkled in the moonlight and as he flew higher, all the birds could see was a beautiful rainbow that was Peacock's tail. Peacock thanked his friends with all his heart and Birdville lived happily and tiger-free.
And the next time you see a rainbow high up in the sky, know it could be peacock and his rainbow tail.
