Midnight (Sneak Peek)

Image
Exciting news - my friend, Soumia and I worked on a chapter book over the summer and got it published thanks to Trail Blazer Press! It's about a young black panther who gets taken from her home and the adventures that follow. Here is a sneak peek - CHAPTER 1 Captured     It was a beautiful night and pitch black filled the sky. A young panther named Midnight gleefully leapt across the fields with her parents. As the swift wind blew past the fields, rabbits scurried around the bushes. Midnight’s parents were preparing to hunt down the rabbits. They crept behind trees, stalking the rabbits. At just the right moment, they pounced and caught their prey. Her parents fed Midnight her meal and then she playfully leapt on the grassy field. From out of nowhere, a swarm of moths came dashing down and swooped right past Midnight. As her parents were finishing their meal, Midnight chased the swarm of moths straight across the field. As soon as she stopped at the edge...

An Ode to my Hero

Image
This is a special poem for a very special person. I loved writing it and was so excited when I got a couple of awards for it too! He gives me courage,  He is funny, sweet and kind When I think of a hero, he comes to mind. He makes me brave,  He makes me strong, He guides me through right and wrong. He makes me laugh,  He makes me chuckle We go together like a belt and buckle! His hugs can melt my fears away, He makes me feel sunny everyday. He makes my heart soar to the sky, He makes me believe that I can fly! There is no challenge that he can’t face To me, he’s the best in every race. He helps me focus when my thoughts are a swirl, Even when I’m grown I’ll be daddy’s girl. ****** Not so neat version below! ***Reflections 2019 - Texas State Award of Excellence, Primary Literature ***Winner, 2019 Frisco Public Library Poetry Contest

Dolphin Migration

Image
Once there was a dolphin named Diva. She lived with her sister Flow. Today was the dolphin migration. Diva was excited! It was her first dolphin migration. She and her friends, Pearl and Agener, all of them were so excited to swim in the migration lotus. Flow said, "Come on!" They all zoomed off following Flow. They all zoomed faster than lightning. They all raced through flowers until they reached a huge flower. "The migration lotus!" Diva gasped in excitement. Flow said, "Follow me!" Then suddenly they were inside the flower! Diva and her friends were touching and plucking the flower before Flow could warn them. They just disappeared into the petals of the flower! In the petals, they found themselves in a lush green crystal river. As they swam in the river, they suddenly saw a shadow race into the petals of the huge flower. Agener took out his plastic sword. A dolphin made out of crystal came out of the seaweed. Agener was about to attack but the...

Cat and Fishy - By Diya Bapat and Addy Moreno

Diya's Note: How we thought of this story is... I wanted the story to be about fish. Addy wanted the book to be about cats. So we called it Cat and Fishy and worked on it together at school. Cat and Fishy hope  you like their story. CHAPTER 1 Differences  "Cat, it is cold here! I live in really hot places." "Well, I love it!" replied Cat. "Of course you love it, you have a warm fur coat! I'm just covered in scales", said Fishy. "Well, you said you wanted us to have a playdate." "Ok, how about you see where I live? Let's go!" "Wait, wait, wait!", said Cat, "we need to go across water?!?" "Don't worry, it's only a little swim and I made you a little raft." "Thanks, let's go!" "We're here!" said Fishy. "But it is so hot here. I'm covered in warm fur. You're just covered in nice, cold scales." "Well then, let'...

What Would Protect Me?

Image
One day, a little dog named Wolfie asked his mom, "What will protect us from enemies?" "Our teeth," said Mama Dog. "Our tiny, short teeth?" thought Wolfie. Next day Wolfie said, "I'm going to find another thing to protect me!" "Okay," said mom. So Wolfie set off in the fresh morning. First, he went to the Savannah. He met Porkey the Porcupine. He asked, "What protects you?" "My quills," said Porkey. "Can you give some to me?" "No," replied Porkey, "because then I won't have anything to protect me!" "Oh," said Wolfie. So he set off again while a leopard pounced at Porkey. The next place he went to was the swamp. He asked an alligator, "What protects you?" "My skin and sharp teeth," replied the alligator. "Can I have some of your scales?" asked Wolfie. "No, how can I protect myself then?!" said th...

The Tree's Leaves

Image
On a nice spring morning, there lived a little tree. He was everyone's favorite tree. Rabbits, squirrels, birds, they all loved him. As the summer passed, it became Fall. All the trees started to shed their leaves except the little tree. As the winter began the little tree still had all his leaves. He watched the kids play in the cold winter night. As the spring began, trees got bigger and stronger. But the little tree stayed little. Then spring passed and Summer came. Trees got bigger and brighter leaves while the little tree had all old and dull leaves. As the years passed, trees and animals grew bigger and taller but the little tree was still little. Then on a cold and dark night, an owl came to the little tree and said, "If you let go of your leaves you will become bigger and stronger! HOOT!" So next winter the little tree let go of his leaves one at a time. After spring, summer came and  the little  tree became a big and  special tree with pink sparkly leave...

Mint's Adventures: Mint's Lagoon Adventure

Image
Once in Turtle Lagoon lived Mint, a little 6-year old turtle. One day, he asked his mom, "Why do we always catch butterfly fish? Why can't we catch damselfish like the crocodiles?" "Because they are faster than us and have sharper teeth than us," said Mother Turtle. "Well," said Mint, "I'm going to try to catch a damselfish!" So he went to Crocodile Kingdom. At feeding time, Mint tried catching a damselfish but they were too fast and he couldn't grab them because he didn't have sharp teeth. So he went back to his home. He told his mom about what had happened. She said, "See? I was right!" "Well," said Mint, "I am now going to...Shark Kingdom!" At feeding time, Mint tried catching a lionfish but they were too fast and too spiky. So he went home and told his mom about his adventure at Shark Kingdom. Next day, he said to his mom, "Now, I am going to go to the Reef of Mimic Octopuses!...
